
Over the years, working across sectors where failure is not theoretical, I have learned that how you see quality changes how you test. If you see it as a checklist, you test to pass. If you see it as care, you test to protect.
Earlier in my career, I worked as a frontend developer. I built the interfaces users interact with. I worried about responsiveness, validation states, edge cases, performance. I understood how many moving parts sit behind what looks simple on a screen.
When you have built the interface yourself, you understand the pressure to ship. You understand how tempting it is to assume something works because it worked once. You understand how a small oversight can quietly grow into a much bigger issue.
Now, working in software testing, I carry that builder’s perspective with me. I do not test just to find faults. I test with an understanding of how the system was built. That combination changes how you see a product. More intentional. Less surface-level.
This dual perspective has shaped my work across digital banking channels, including internet platforms, chat-based services, USSD infrastructure, and mobile financial applications. It has also informed my contributions to legal tech, health tech, and blockchain ecosystems where digital asset transactions demand precision and reliability.
This is why I believe quality assurance is not just a backend responsibility. It is a user experience responsibility. It is a trust responsibility. And trust, once broken in a digital product, is difficult to rebuild.
As women working across engineering and testing, I believe we bring something important to this work.
Many of us have built careers in systems that were not always designed with us in mind. We have had to pay attention. To observe carefully. To question what others might overlook. That experience builds a certain kind of vigilance. A habit of interrogating assumptions. A sensitivity to the gap between how something is supposed to work and how it actually works for the person using it.
That is not a soft skill. It is the mindset quality engineering requires.
I am intentional about helping the women coming into this industry find clearer paths than the one I had. In workshops, panels, and mentoring conversations, I try to speak honestly about transitioning into tech, about testing, about building careers that are both technically strong and sustainable.
Because representation in tech is not only about hiring numbers. It is about who shapes the systems people depend on. Who defines quality. Who decides what good looks like, and for whom.
Products built by diverse teams tend to be more thoroughly questioned, more honestly evaluated, and ultimately more trustworthy. Not because women are flawless, but because diversity reduces blind spots. Different lived experiences surface different risks. And quality, if taken seriously, requires as many perspectives as possible asking, what could go wrong here?
High-stakes digital products deserve that level of care.
Users deserve that level of care.
And there are women doing this work every day, often quietly, ensuring that the systems people rely on are worthy of their trust.
This International Women’s Day, I want to say it clearly. The trust users place in digital products is not accidental. It is built. It is tested. It is earned.
And many of the people doing that work are women.
That work matters.
We matter.
And we are only getting started.
