In today’s hyperconnected digital economy, cybersecurity has moved from being a technical necessity to a business imperative. As organizations accelerate digital transformation, the complexity of securing networks, data, and applications continues to grow.

Rakesh Parbhoo, Executive Vice President Middle East and Africa (MEA), Westcon-Comstor shares how the company is shaping the cybersecurity ecosystem through deep vendor partnerships, partner enablement initiatives, and a focus on delivering secure, value-driven digital transformation.

In MEA, where cybersecurity maturity varies widely, how can data-driven insights help partners identify gaps in resilience and proactively address threats?

We’re seeing partners across MEA using data to proactively identify vulnerabilities, forecast threats and benchmark security performance. Real-time monitoring, predictive modelling and scenario simulations help strengthen resilience and enable faster, more coordinated responses. By sharing data across ecosystems, partners are fostering transparency and collaboration, ensuring robust and proactive resilience strategies. Demand for data-driven insights is sparking a new wave of solutions. Comstor’s new managed Security Operations Centre offering, for example, gives partners a turnkey solution to launch their own branded SOC. Powered by Cisco XDR, it combines multi-layered threat detection with AI-driven analytics and 24/7 support from certified experts, all managed through a single dashboard – delivering enhanced visibility, faster response times and measurable improvements in security outcomes.

With the growth of IoT and OT environments in MEA, what new security opportunities and risks do you foresee for partners?

As industries like energy, manufacturing, and smart cities in MEA connect their operational technology (OT) and IoT devices, new security challenges are being created. These environments often have older systems, flat networks and unclear asset inventories, while the convergence of IT and OT expands the attack surface for threats like ransomware, making visibility and real-time response critical. With more devices and systems coming online, partners can offer threat detection, segmentation and compliance services that address unique vulnerabilities. The real sweet spot for partners lies in the delivery of specialised security solutions and managed services that are tailored to industrial and connected ecosystems and bridge the IT and OT worlds with integrated, data-driven security strategies. Partners that master this will be well positioned to lead in this fast-evolving space.

Tech Distribution is evolving from a transactional role to providing insights and value-added services. How can distributors like Westcon-Comstor also help partners strengthen their cybersecurity posture?

The old channel model – one in which vendors created solutions, distributors delivered them and partners took them to market – has been replaced by a complex ecosystem in which customer demands are no longer straightforward or predictable. In this new world, characterised by hybrid cloud, AI, cybersecurity and data-led analytics, distribution is no longer linear. Value-added distributors are perhaps more accurately described as technology aggregators or solutions orchestrators at the heart of a complex, multi-faceted ecosystem. At Westcon-Comstor we are proud to be at the forefront of this shift, equipping partners and their customers with access to multi-vendor security software solutions and services. Through our tailored training and enablement and value-added services such as 3D Lab – our virtual demo environment that lets partners and their customers assess and validate security solutions against specific use cases prior to purchase – we’re empowering partners to proactively address threats, close skills gaps and build more resilient digital environments for their customers.

Many SMBs in MEA struggle with budget constraints. How can channel partners innovate to deliver cybersecurity in a more scalable and affordable way?

Budget constraints are a common challenge for SMBs, but channel partners can play a pivotal role by rethinking how cybersecurity is delivered and deployed. By embracing cloud-based solutions, offering flexible subscription models and leveraging automation, partners can provide scalable protection without the heavy upfront costs. Collaboration with vendors and distributors to tailor offerings for SMB needs also ensures that security remains accessible and affordable.

Meanwhile the remarkable rise of cloud marketplaces, led by AWS Marketplace, is reshaping end-user buying behaviour and presents partners with a new route to market when it comes to selling security solutions – one that is favoured by a growing number of their customers due to the convenience and simplicity on offer, from shortened procurement cycles to reductions in administration and improved transparency on pricing and spend.

Quarterly AWS customer spend commitments surged 25% year-on-year to $195bn recently. With every transaction made on AWS Marketplace counting towards these spend commitments, partners can leverage marketplace selling to empower their customers to maximise the value of cloud investments while strengthening their security posture.

Westcon-Comstor’s AWS Marketplace programme is designed to enable partners to tap into this opportunity, while taking advantage of the faster deal closures and higher return on investment on offer.

With cyberattacks becoming more sophisticated, do you believe the future of the channel will be defined by how well partners integrate cybersecurity into their data strategies?

Yes, this will be a key aspect of ensuring that the channel is future ready and able to meet the challenges of tomorrow. As cyber threats grow in sophistication, scale, and frequency in the AI economy, security can no longer be treated as a standalone concern. In the future, the most successful partners will be those who treat security and data as two sides of the same coin. It’s no longer enough to just have security tools; the real value comes from using the data they generate. We’re helping our partners combine security signals with business information to get a complete picture of their customers’ risks. This data-driven approach allows them to offer predictive defence, prioritise investments where they’ll have the most impact, and prove their value with clear results. It’s about moving from reacting to threats to proactively managing risk, which is exactly what businesses across the MEA region need. By aligning security with innovation, partners can unlock new revenue streams, differentiate themselves in a crowded market and help customers thrive in a digital-first world.

As cyber threats evolve in scale and sophistication, Westcon-Comstor’s strategic focus on building an integrated cybersecurity ecosystem stands out as a key differentiator. By empowering partners with knowledge, tools, and advanced security solutions, the company continues to bridge the gap between innovation and protection. The discussion reinforces that in the digital-first world, cybersecurity is not just about defense — it’s about building resilience, trust, and sustainable growth for the future.
