As India marks its 79th Independence Day, it celebrates not just freedom, but remarkable progress and innovation. Now the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem, India hosts over 100,000 startups and 121 unicorns. A large pool of tech talent in the country, with graduates from IIT Delhi and Bombay and other top tech institutes and B-schools founding numerous fintech companies, ensures that the country is continuously engaged in innovation. In the eyes of investors, this talent pool is a competitive advantage, enabling startups to develop scalable, technology-driven solutions that are applicable worldwide.

Among sectors, Consumer has seen the most unicorns created at 59, followed by Enterprise Applications at 43, and Retail at 40. Here’s a look at some of the trailblazing startups of 2025 that are powering India’s journey as a global innovation leader:

Navi

Founded in 2012 by Sachin Bansal and Ankit Agarwal, Navi is a Bengaluru-based digital financial services platform offering UPI payments, loans, insurance, and investments. Its goal is to make financial services accessible and paperless for millions of Indians through its mobile app. Navi currently competes with top fintech players like Paytm, PhonePe, and MobiKwik and has achieved unicorn status with a valuation of $1.2 billion.

At intervals, Navi has continued to attract significant investor interest. In 2025, it raised $20 million in conventional debt from PhillipCapital and Ambit. The year 2024 saw $18 million in convertible debt from Kairus Dadachanji and others, while in 2020, the company secured $26.9 million in Series A funding from Gaja Capital and an impressive $400 million in angel investment from multiple investors. This brings Navi’s total funding to $445 million.

SuperK

Founded in 2020 by BITS Pilani alumni Neeraj Menta and Anil Thontepu, SuperK is a tech-enabled franchise supermarket chain that empowers local entrepreneurs with inventory, procurement, and marketing tools. It operates 130+ franchise stores in 80+ towns, primarily in Andhra Pradesh, and is known for its data-driven retail model designed for tier-2 and tier-3 India.

The company has steadily drawn investor backing over the years. In 2025, it raised $12 million in Series B funding from Blume Ventures, Xeed Ventures, and 3STATE Ventures. In 2024, it secured $6 million in Series A investment from Blume Ventures and others, and in 2021, it obtained $5.5 million in seed funding from Mars Shot Ventures, QED Innovation Labs, and more. This brings its total funding to over $24 million.

Enlite

Founded in 2017 by Gaurav Bali and Garima Bharadwaj, Enlite is a climate tech and proptech company driving carbon neutrality and energy efficiency in smart airports, real estate, and public infrastructure. It uses edge AI and telemetry solutions to manage over 25 million sq. ft. of real estate.

In 2025, the company secured ₹46 crore (about $5.5 million) in Series A funding led by Avaana Capital and Claypond Capital, following earlier grants of $341,000 and $126,000 from European Union initiatives.

Escape Plan

Founded in 2025 by Abhinav Pathak and Abhinav Zutshi, Escape Plan aims to be India’s first all-in-one platform for travel accessories. With plans for quick delivery (1-hour in key cities) and 100 offline stores in 18-24 months, the brand targets the growing travel and lifestyle segment with design-led, fashion-forward products.

In 2025, the company raised $5 million in seed funding from Jungle Ventures’ First Cheque@Jungle initiative, Fireside Ventures, and a group of angel investors.

Sharpsell.ai

A Mumbai-based startup founded in 2022 by Hanuman Kamma and Arun Subramanian, Sharpsell.ai provides AI-driven sales enablement tools for large teams in sectors like banking and insurance. Its platform helps sales reps with dynamic presentations, personalized learning, and analytics, serving 550,000+ sales professionals.

In 2025, the company raised $3.4 million in Series A funding led by Equentis Angel Fund and $2.05 million in seed funding from Bajaj Finserv and others. Earlier, it had secured over $1 million from Cornerstone Ventures and Mistry Ventures, taking its total funding to $7.92 million.

EVeez

EVeez was co-founded by Gaurav Rathore and Abhishek Dwivedi in 2020, is building India’s electric vehicle subscription platform, offering businesses and individuals an affordable way to adopt green mobility. Its mission is to make EV usage convenient and accessible without heavy upfront costs.

In 2025, the company secured $5.4 million in Series A funding from the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, Caret Capital, and others.

Drizz

Drizz, founded in 2024 by Yash Varyani, Asad Abrar, Sayantan Sarkar, Partha Sarathi Mohanty, and Zaid Ahmed Ansari, is revolutionizing mobile app testing with its Vision AI-powered agent. In the first half of 2025, Indian startups raised nearly $6.72 billion in venture capital, despite a cautious global investment climate.
