More than 15 years after introducing the Chromebook for a cloud-first world, Google is reimagining the laptop for the next era of computing — one centered on intelligence, personalization, and proactive assistance. Googlebook brings together the best of Android’s app ecosystem and modern AI capabilities with the speed, simplicity, and security of ChromeOS, creating an entirely new experience designed from the ground up for Gemini.
Computing is evolving beyond traditional operating systems toward intelligence-driven experiences, creating an opportunity to rethink the role of the laptop. With Googlebook, Google is introducing a new generation of laptops designed to be more helpful, more personalized, and more seamlessly connected to the devices and services people use every day.
Designed for Gemini Intelligence
At the core of every Googlebook is Gemini Intelligence, deeply integrated into the user experience to provide contextual, proactive assistance throughout the day.
One of the standout innovations is Magic Pointer, developed in collaboration with Google DeepMind. By simply wiggling the cursor, users can activate Gemini-powered suggestions directly on screen. Magic Pointer understands context and helps users complete tasks faster — from creating calendar events directly from an email to visualizing furniture inside a room by combining images instantly.
Google is also introducing Create your Widget, a new feature that allows users to generate personalized desktop widgets using natural language prompts. Gemini can pull information from the web and connect with Google apps such as Gmail and Calendar to create dynamic dashboards tailored to individual needs. For example, users planning a family reunion can instantly generate a desktop hub containing travel itineraries, hotel bookings, restaurant reservations, reminders, and countdowns in one place.
Together, these experiences are designed to help users move from idea to action with fewer clicks and less friction.
Optimized for the Android Ecosystem
Built on parts of the Android technology stack, Googlebook enables faster innovation across devices while delivering a more connected ecosystem experience.
Googlebook is designed to help users stay in flow as they move between their laptop and smartphone. Whether quickly ordering food through a mobile app or responding to reminders without switching devices, interactions feel fluid and uninterrupted.
The company is also introducing Quick Access, a feature that enables users to view, search, and insert files stored on their phones directly from the Googlebook file browser — eliminating the need for manual transfers.
With access to millions of apps through Google Play, Googlebook combines the versatility of Android with the productivity and browsing experience users expect from ChromeOS.
Crafted with Premium Hardware and Design
Google is partnering with leading PC manufacturers including Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo to bring the first generation of Googlebooks to market.
Each Googlebook device will feature premium craftsmanship and materials while offering a range of form factors and sizes to suit different users and lifestyles. Every model will also include a signature “Glowbar,” a distinctive design element that serves as both a visual identity and a functional interface feature.
Google says more details about Googlebook devices, features, and availability will be shared later this year.
